Visceral catharsis takes centre stage in this interconnected series of approximately 100 drawings and paintings, 172 grams (2018-2019). Recurring motifs of the lone female figure wrestle with the persistence of the void in a tumultuous excavation of the process of recovery and repair. With abject force, Lawley uses the energetic gesture of pencil, paint, pigment and felt tip on paper to scour the emotional body – turned inside out, an audible truth is brought to the surface of these powerful tableaux.
